SIX has launched a global call for research proposals for financial economics academics and researchers on the topic Competitiveness of European public capital markets. Works may be submitted until June 28, 2024.
The objective of this call for research proposals is to evaluate the current state and factors affecting the competitiveness of European public capital markets in comparison to competing capital markets. SIX is looking for research articles that evaluate and propose concrete measures based on rigorous academic research results to strengthen the attractiveness and role of public capital markets in improving the growth potential of the European economy and its productivity.
Research proposals should clarify and provide detailed academic evidence on the causes that explain the current situation and patterns, necessarily including a comparative analysis with other capital markets. The investigation will also include robust measures that European markets and authorities must take to become more competitive. The proposal will focus on the primary (IPO, listing), secondary (trading) or both areas of the market.

On May 14, 2024, the president of the International Association of Applied Economics ASEPELT, Mr. José-María Montero, met with Ms. Rosa Visiedo, vice president of the Spanish Confederation of University Rectors (CRUE) and asked her to transmit to CRUE the proposal that Spanish universities finance the open publication of Spanish journals with the FECyT Quality seal. Specifically, he proposed that two million euros of the 45 million that Spanish universities pay for the open access and publication of certain magazines from four large international publishers be allocated to Spanish magazines with the FECyT quality seal so that they do not disappear. On the contrary, in this way they serve as a vehicle for international researchers to show their research to the world through our journals, and these become global references.
At this meeting, which was also attended by the Honorary Rector of the CEU San Pablo University, Mr. Antonio Calvo, the situation of the official ASEPELT journal, Studies of Applied Economics, was also discussed.
ASEPELT brings together faculties and departments of Economics from more than 80% of Spanish universities. In addition, it has a significant number of international institutional members from both the academic and business fields.
